《I Began Selling Jars from Naruto World》 CH 1 Chapter 1 - Transmigration and System Shen Mo opened his eyes with some difficulty as his mind slowly started running again, and he tried to figure out where he was. It was an unfamiliar wooden room. He was covered with worn out thin quilt while lying on the tatami floor directly. He put a hand on his head and tried to get up but he was unable to muster the strength to do so and gave up. "System," he called within his mind. A faint but distinct screen of light appeared within his consciousness. It clearly wasn''t an illusion. He was just an ordinary game designer on a certain blue planet who suddenly got a System out of nowhere that started some sort of countdown right away. He was unable to stop it and could only use this "Universal Transaction System" to leave behind a huge amount of money for his family with a life insurance policy. Shen Mo felt terrible. A lot of people dream of transmigration and making a name for themselves but this system basically abducted him, forcibly stripping him of his normal life. It was clearly made by someone. Regardless of who the bigshot that made it is, he will find them. He silently laid on the floor for sometime and gradually accepted his circumstances. Since there was nothing he could do about it, might as well make the most out of it. As long as one didn''t set too high standards for oneself, life could be bearable anywhere. Shen Mo started sizing up the Universal Transaction System. It was easy enough to understand how it worked. Items traded from others, regardless of what it may be, could be exchanged for "Transaction Points" in the system that would allow him to buy anything he wants from the system''s Merchant Layer. He even saw Doraemon''s time machine among the items, although the points needed for it had so many zeros that he didn''t bother counting. However, it was a genuine time machine! "There should be some restrictions." Shen Mo muttered as he scrutinized the terms of transaction. It said that both parties must voluntarily agree to the transaction and the value of the transaction must be within a range of 0.5x~5x. He currently had 100,000 Transaction Points. It was the leftover from when he had exchanged his three years of savings from work to buy the insurance policy. Something like a cup of instant noodles for example, cost 5 points. Fortunately, it was not the type of system where the prices kept changing from time to time. "Ah, I had almost won this time." Suddenly from outside the room came a woman''s voice. Shen Mo went on guard and put a bunch of powerful defensive items in the shopping cart as quickly as he could. The wooden door crudely opened as a woman wearing light grey sleeveless shirt came in. She had pale golden hair with golden pupils and, more importantly, massive breasts. Tsunade Cosplay? Having watched quite a few anime in his life, Shen Mo instantly realized the character this person was cosplaying as. "So you''re awake." The woman cosplaying as Tsunade smiled as she looked at him and then sat down beside him in unladylike manner. She stretched out her hand and said, "I saved your life, so out with the cash." From the moment the woman came in and started to talk, Shen Mo had used 30,000 Transaction Points and bought a "Japanese Language Comprehension". He saw another woman dressed up like Tsunade''s disciple, Shizune, come into the room. He had an inkling of what was going on. Shizune sat down in seiza and explained, "You see, we found you unconscious on the road and brought you in for treatment." In actuality, Tsunade''s words on finding him were: "This guy must be a rich young master with such fair and soft skin. I''m going to charge him ten times the normal medical fees!" Of course, there was no way Shizune would mention such a thing. "So that''s how it is." Shen Mo replied in fluent Japanese that he had just learned. "I''m grateful for you treating but can you give me something to eat? Something liquid would be best." "Hmm, very well." Tsunade stood up indifferently, "Shizune, I''ll leave this guy in your hands. Don''t let him run away until he has paid us the treatment fees." She had inspected the man''s body beforehand. His muscles were untrained and he had no chakra, so he was just an ordinary rich man. It was nothing new for her to treat those with thick pockets for some cash that she could use for gambling. Shizune complied with Tsunade''s order. She told Shen Mo to not move recklessly and that she will bring over his food a bit later. Shen Mo watched them go as his nerves finally relaxed. With how they looked, the possibility of them being cosplayers was low. Assuming that it is their true appearance, did I really crossover over to Naruto world? "Hmm, this might be quite advantageous to me." He could use his familiarity with the world and knowledge of future developments to lead a comfortable life. For example, he could sell to, say, Tsunade a "Life Token" for 5 times the highest price. In fact, if he didn''t have to consider converting the transaction into Transaction Points, he could easily exceed 5 times as Tsunade had a demand for the item. "However, selling things that the other party needs is only the lowest level of transaction." The corners of Shen Mo''s mouth slightly rose, "Selling items that the other party doesn''t require is the best way to maximize benefits." In the previous world, there was a saying: Selling a comb to a monk. This kind of deception was rather common in games where you had to open jars. Isn''t Tsunade known as "The Legendary Sucker"? It would be a pity to let go off this opportunity. Shen Mo ate some of the liquid food to restore his strength while placing some more life saving items in the shopping cart so that he could use them at moment''s notice if needed and then started preparing for his first transaction. He told Shizune that he wanted to settle the matter of the medical service and then was brought to Tsunade. From what he had asked before, he knew that the current plot was after the Third Shinobi World War and it had already been more than 10 years since the Fourth Hokage sacrificed his life. Tsunade was drinking sake from a small bottle by herself, a tinge of red had appeared on her skin, a sign of being drunk. From her smoking hot body, it was hard to believe that she was in her fifties. Despite having seen innumerable actresses in movies or TV shows, he couldn''t help but acknowledge her beauty. CH 2 Chapter 2 - Opening Jars! "Thanks again for your help." Shen Mo smiled with gratitude, appearing polite. He wanted to make sure minor issues won''t arise before any transaction was done. "Don''t need your thanks, just give me the money." Tsunade stretched out her palm towards him, "100,000 ry¨." The corners of Shen Mo''s eyes twitched a bit. Really black-bellied. 100,000 ry¨ was worth about 6,000 Transaction Points. He is clear about his own body. He had only passed out for a bit due to space-time travel, so even if Tsunade hadn''t done anything, he would''ve been fine. As such, he doesn''t really owe her much. "I''m sorry but I don''t have any cash on me right now. However, I do have some merchandise." Shen Mo pulled out a scroll from behind him and unfurled it. A light bang sounded out as 10 jars came out. Each jar cost him 30 Transaction Points while the sealing ninjutsu scroll cost him 400 Transaction Points. "Hmm?" Although Tsunade was a bit surprised that the ordinary man in front of her had a sealing scroll on him, she didn''t give it much thought. After glancing at the jars for a moment, her expression turned into one of disgust, "Clay jars?" Such things were of little worth. "These aren''t your common clay jars." Shen Mo said while maintaining his smile, "Each of them costs 50,000 ry¨." "50,000 ry¨?" Tsunade''s expression clearly showed that she thought he was lying. She could see these were just ordinary clay pots. "What''s valuable aren''t the pots themselves but what''s inside them." Shen Mo continued, "Does Miss know about lottery tickets? These are similar to them but the jars have valuable goods, instead of just money. There are items worth less than 50,000 ry¨ but also items that far surpass the said amount." This was gambling. One cannot know what''s inside the jar until it is opened. One may suffer a loss, one may make a profit. And, as he expected, Tsunade being the gambler she was, had her curiosity piqued. "How can I confirm that it is truly as you said about there being goods that will far surpass the selling price? What to do if all of it turns out to be worthless junk?" She leaned forward while holding a sake cup in her hand, visible excitement apparent on her face. Nearby, Shizune sighed with a tired expression. "If you don''t believe me, you can buy all of them. There will definitely be something quite valuable, but you will lose money overall." Shen Mo smiled confidently as the other party had already taken the bait, "I''m not doing a one-time deal. If you make a profit, you can buy again next time." "You are quite business-minded." Tsunade said after giving it some thought. These jars really were like lottery tickets, moreover the probability wasn''t as low. For someone who liked to gamble, these had quite the attraction. "These jars weren''t manufactured by me. I just buy and sell them." Shen Mo made it clear from the beginning. Otherwise, when Tsunade found out in the future that he had Life Tokens, then why would she even bother buying jars. She would just try to get it from him. Even if there was a transaction, it would be pointless if it wasn''t through selling jars. "I see." Tsunade nodded, after all Shen Mo was just a normal person in her eyes. So, it was impossible for him to have manufactured the sealing ninjutsu scroll. She put down her sake cup and asked with excitement, "Can I take two?" "Yes, as medical expenses." Shen Mo nodded and then pointed at the ten jars, "After opening any of the jars, you cannot return them." These jars were empty currently. However, he didn''t need to worry about Tsunade cheating with ninjutsu due to her being a gambling addict. She scanned the ten jars with her eyes but no matter how much she looked from the outside, they appeared the same. Touching them wasn''t allowed so she couldn''t judge using their weight. "It''s this one!" She grasped a jar and then smashed it right away. *That was close call!* Cold sweat appeared on Shen Mo. He was almost unable to exchange an item on time. "10,000 ry¨?" Tsunade was disappointed. Shen Mo had said each jar was worth 50,000 ry¨, so this was a big loss. However, she stopped caring about it right away. It was nothing new for her to lose a bet and she had gotten the jar for free anyway. She hadn''t even given any treatment to Shen Mo, just checked up on his condition. Tsunade picked the second jar casually. Shen Mo was relieved and exchanged a specific item right away. Now, this is the real bait. "A small bottle?" It wasn''t money this time, making Tsunade somewhat curious. "Congratulations." Shen Mo said with a smile as if he was a bit envious, "This is a very precious item called The Water of Life. It costs 50,000 ry¨." This was the true Water of Life from the the Fountain of Youth in Pirates of the Caribbean. It could give ordinary people three days worth of vitality from drinking it. It cost him 600 Transaction Points which when changed into the currency of this world would only be about 10,000 ry¨. However, Shen Mo shamelessly said it was 50,000 ry¨. The value of goods change depending on the demands. How can one make money without being black-bellied. Tsunade opened the bottle and smelled the water. A bit of anger flashed through her eyes. "This water is supposed to be 50,000 ry¨?" She looked at Shen Mo somewhat threateningly. She doesn''t mind losing bets but if he was deceiving her then she would him know why she was one of the Konoha Sannin. "This isn''t ordinary water." Shen Mo shook his head and solemnly said, "We have always conducted our business with honesty. This bottle of water is enough to let ordinary people who are dying of old age live for at least three more days. If you don''t believe me, you can test it out with a sip." "Oh?" Tsunade replied without much emotion. Being the greatest medical ninja she could do that as well and quite easily at that. However, she couldn''t feel even a trace of medicinal herbs from this bottle of water. She sneered in her mind, thinking the person in front her probably doesn''t know her status. She drank half of the contents of the bottle without caring if it might be poisoned or drugged. Then, her pupils contracted a bit. She felt an exceptionally pure vitality flow into her whole body. Although the effect on her was quite weak, the pure of the vitality was unprecedented. It was comparable to her own vitality which was truly shocked her. This bit of water could truly grant someone three days of vitality. For people who usually die after getting severely injured, this water could give them enough time to hold on till the treatment is done. 50,000 ry¨ was too cheap for something like this! CH 3 Chapter 3 - The Charm of Jars Tsunade began to think if there was enough of this Water of Life, what sort of miracles would be possible. Immortality? Hyper Regeneration? Becoming undead? The way she looked at Shen Mo changed noticeably. Someone who call sell this type of thing couldn''t possibly be an ordinary merchant. "Little Brother, can you tell me where you bought these types of jars from?" Tsunade asked while rocking the bottle in her hand. Little Brother, heh. It seems like the shock she had received from the Water of Life was bigger than he had imagined. The smile on Shen Mo''s face remain unchanged as he said, "Sorry, that''s a business secret. We signed a contract that doesn''t allow us to disclose such information." Tsunade''s eyes narrowed slightly. We? So that means there are more merchants selling such jars. She started thinking there might be some sort of mysterious organization planning something behind the scenes. However, she stopped that train of thought there. After all, she had already left Konoha. Whatever happened in the world had nothing to do with her. "Forget it. I just asked casually. That''s all." She emphasized the last bit as if trying to convince herself. The successive deaths of her younger brother and lover had devastated her too much. "In that case, I must take my leave." Shen Mo brought out a rope and pretended to slowly tie up the remaining eight jars. "Wait a moment." Tsunade called out as he had expected. The bait had been swallowed. Shen Mo rejoiced on the inside as he raised his head and asked, "Miss, what''s the matter?" "Carrying so many jars on your back must be tough. How about you sell them to me at a cheaper price?" Tsunade was looking at the remaining jars in anticipation. Putting aside the matters she didn''t want to think about, she was still quite curious about these jars. Could they have more amazing things besides the Water of Life? Not knowing the contents was one of the biggest charms of the jars and obviously the gambling aspect as well. "Cheaper is impossible." Shen Mo rejected with an apologetic look, "It is among the rules. Sorry about that. In fact the two jars from before, I will have to make up for their cost from my own pocket." Preferential benefit cannot be given lightly on this matter. Otherwise, it would become a huge issue after becoming more familiar with others. Shen Mo must keep on propagandizing a point. ''I am just a wage earner with little power. Cannot take responsibility on the matter of jars sales.'' "Tsk." Tsunade was obviously somewhat upset but didn''t force it. She waved her and said commandingly, "Shizune, bring out the money." "But Tsunade-sama...," Shizune hesitated. Tsunade, being a gambling addict, was in a lot of debt. So they only had some living expenses left. "It doesn''t matter, it isn''t a loss to buy such jars." Tsunade shook the bottle in her hand as her eyes glinted with excitement. The second charm of the jars: No loss! One would feel that the contents inside have some value without considering that those things may not be useful to them at all. Shen Mo was sure of it. Princess Tsunade had already fallen for it. "Thanks, this will help a lot." Shen Mo happily received the money from Shizune. The system in his mind determined that the transaction was established and he handed out the jars, "Can you let me see what''s in the jars as well? If there are some rare items, I could explain them to you." Tsunade nodded indifferently and pressed down her palm, crushing the jar. 10,000 ry¨ again? Tsunade was annoyed a bit and immediately switched to the next jar. It was a packet of powder this time. "This is the Powdered Root of Asphodel which costs about 30,000 ry¨." Shen Mo didn''t wait for Tsunade and explained right away, "By mixing it an infusion of Wormwood, you can make a colorless and tasteless sleeping potion so powerful it is known as the Draught of Living Death." It was something from Harry Potter. In fact, five out of the eight jars had potions or herbs from Harry Potter. They were Healing Potion, Petrification Potion and finally, the most expensive of them, costing about 80,000 ry¨, the Veritaserum. Obviously, the real value in the System is about 10,000 ry¨ which is 600 Transaction Points, satisfying the one-fifth minimum value for transactions. "Profited big-time!" Tsunade''s excited voice and Shen Mo''s inner voice overlapped. "Managed to get such mysterious potion and medidcinal herb." Tsunade was looking at Shen Mo with a face flushed with excitement. She had managed to gain quite a bit for someone who lost in gambling most of the times. "Your luck is really good." Shen Mo said without hesitation and gave her a look of adulation, "Even if this jar set belonged to the Medicine Series, being able to get so many valuable potions is quite rare." "Hahaha." Tsunade laughed without restraint totally unlike a lady, and then reached out and smashed the last jar. It was a book. Shen Mo narrowed his eyes. This is the big gift he had prepared. "What''s this?" Tsunade picked it up and glanced through it, "About application of chakra in cell regeneration." "Ohh, so it''s that one!" Shen Mo''s acting skill got activated, showing a shocked expression, "This is a precious treasure for medical ninja and it is said that whoever manages to collect the entire series can become the greatest medical ninja!" "Greatest medical ninja?" Tsunade glanced at Shen Mo and snorted in disdain, "Heh." She was quite the famous medical ninja herself. It seemed like this would be the most useless thing for her. She looked at several lines casually and suddenly, her expression changed. "Tsunade-sama?" Shizune inquired with a low voice but Tsunade lifted a hand to prevent her from speaking. The room became quiet all of a sudden, only the sound of pages turning could be heard. This book... Most of the information recorded in it are exactly the same as what I researched and conceived! There are even more additions and interpretations that I hadn''t thought of. Shen Mo watched Tsunade with a smile. Actually, she was the one who had written the book. However, it is supposed to be published by her in future, 15 years to be exact. And it was only a small part of it too. He had spent some Transaction Points to remove any name, date and such information related to the publication. The system truly deserved the "Universal" part of its name. "Is there more?" Tsunade had already gone through it. The whole thing only had like 10 pages. As a medical ninja, the feeling of not being able to finish the whole thing really irritated her. "It is part of a series." Shen Mo shakes his head helplessly, "Only available in the Medicine Series jars but collecting all of them would be extremely difficult." The third charm of jars! Collection! Just like some waifu gacha. A single copy is useless, two copies is lacking in damage, three is just mid and there''s no point in having four instead of going for completion. CH 4 Chapter 4 - Omniscient Almighty Eye! "Dammit!" Tsunade raised her first with anger. However, after glancing at Shen Mo''s naive appearance, she put her hand down. This showed the advantage of the ''wage earner'' image. No matter the luck of the draws, it had nothing to do with him. "You have more of this sort of medicine jars, right?" Tsunade stared at Shen Mo as she felt stuffy in her chest and the only way to get rid of this frustration was to open more jars. "Of course." Shen Mo nodded as happiness spread through his heart. He couldn''t be more aware of the emotion Tsunade was feeling. The more good stuff comes out, the more one wants to open them. "Shizune." Tsunade took a swig of the sake and waved her hand, "Bring out the money!" "Tsunade-sama." Shizune''s faint voice sounded out, "We don''t have much left." "What?" Tsunade blinked, somewhat dumbfounded. "Did you forget how much you lost yesterday?" Shizune''s face flashed with bitterness. "...." Shen Mo was a bit stupefied. Putting aside the two free ones, I just put out eight jars and it only cost 400,000 ry¨. Converted into Transaction Points, it was about 24,000. A dignified medical-nin, one of the Konoha Legendary Sannin, princess of the Senju clan, only had this much money? "Haha haha." Tsunade laughed somewhat awkwardly, slapped her palm on the floor, leaned forward and said to Shen Mo, "I''ll buy them on credit!" "...." Shen Mo''s expression darkened, "I''m really sorry. We''re a small business so all sales are done in cash." What a joke, although Tsunade''s gambling addiction was great for him, he couldn''t bear to owe too much gambling debt. Those debt collectors from the original manga suffered for years pursuing her to get back the money. "Now, now, don''t be so stingy." Tsunade patted Shen Mo twice on the shoulder, the force behind them was nothing to laugh at, "Do you know who I am? I am Tsunade, one of Konoha''s Legendary Sannin. Are you worried that I won''t pay you back?" You don''t pay back anyone until years have gone by. Shen Mo didn''t voice his thoughts and just shook his head. It was non-negotiable. He wasn''t worried about Tsunade getting angry and punching him or something. He had the Diamond Body Protection symbol from immortal cultivation after all. "Tsk." Tsunade felt discontented. She wasn''t someone who would rob others but not being able to open more jars due to lack of money made her a bit uncomfortable. "However, jars can be exchanged for other goods." Shen Mo continued, "Knowledge, items...just about anything, but the value would be determined by me." "Hoh?" Tsunade''s interest was piqued again, "Would be determined by you? What if it is something you can''t comprehend, how would you decide its value?" "Of course, I have my means." Shen Mo smirked mysteriously, "I''ll guarantee the value is fair. If you have any objection, you can simply not trade." There was another benefit to the system, free appraisal. Anything that could be used for transaction, would get appraised along with determining the value. "Shizune, bring out the spoils from the previous war." Tsunade said while crossing her arms, emphasizing the words she uttered. Although Shen Mo''s items had surprised quite a bit, she could see that he was an ordinary person without chakra and loose muscles. "Yes, Tsunade-sama." Shizune got up left and returned after a while with some items. Although Tsunade had left Konoha, there were still some ninja from other villages that had attacked her, these items belonged to them. "Give these a look-over. How much are they worth?" Tsunade''s expression had a bit of playfulness to it. These were all ninja items like ninjutsu scrolls and katana. It would be difficult for someone not a shinobi to determine their value. However, Shen Mo straightened two of his fingers before his glabella and said in a low voice, "Omniscient Almighty Eye, activate!" Instantly, in his glabella appeared a golden design slowly appeared with a bright light, emanating an incomprehensible aura. Tsunade''s expression froze at the sight. The pattern on Shen Mo''s forehead seemed like an eye, however looking straight at it made her feel a slight stabbing pain. Shizune subconsciously lowered her head as an indescribable emotion took hold of her. Even if one didn''t know what it was, they could still feel a noble aura. She couldn''t gaze upon it directly and had no choice but be respectful. Tsunade had never seen nor heard of an eye with such a design. Shen Mo took in the expressions of both of them and felt quite satisfied. If people from the modern era had seen the design, most of them would have been able to recognize it. After all, it was the Eye of Agamotto that Dr. Strange wore on his neck! Shen Mo had spent 25,000 Transaction Points to trade for a customized pattern whose only function was to emanate a noble and mysterious aura. It wasn''t cheap but it was completely worth the expenditure. It gave him an excuse for being able to determine the value of items and even sometimes during conversations reveal abilities like ''Foresight''. "Three ninjutsu scrolls." Shen said pretentiously while reading out the appraisal results provided by the System, "They are C-rank Earth Release Earth-Style Wall, C-rank Earth Release Splitting Earth Revolving Palm and B-rank Water Release Water Shockwave. The B-rank scroll also has the ninjutsu insights from a jounin. Including the one elite katana, the total value is 3.6 million ry¨." Together these things were worth more than 200,000 TP. It was more than Shen Mo had imagined. However, it made sense as B-rank ninjutsu were already considered as powerful in this world and usually only jounin or above ninjas could master them. Something like A-rank techniques were kept secret and not taught frivolously, as such the price for them was incredibly high. "You analyzed them without even unscrolling?" Tsunade silently stared at Shen Mo for a moment and suddenly took off her necklace, "Tell me, what''s the price for this thing?" "Tsunade-sama, that is...," Shizune called out in alarm. However, Tsunade didn''t give any sort of response and just kept staring at Shen Mo. There was an unspeakable sorrow beneath that gaze. Shen Mo knew what this necklace was. It was something that originally belonged to the First Hokage. The chakra crystal on it responded to his chakra. Tsunade had given it to both her younger brother, Nawaki, and her lover, Katou Dan. However, they had died soon after receiving the necklace, leading some to believe the necklace was cursed.
