If all of your allies are weak, then it’s just a matter of who has the highest combat ability, but in group battles, buffers and de-buffers will be very important.
Even beginner buffers can make a difference if you have a lot of them.

I thought it would be a really random battle, but there are special rules and it seems well balanced.

You can strengthen bases by reinforcing walls and adding cannons.
