Chapter 236: I Swear on my Magic! Trust me, Bro!

“Human! How dare you blackmail me in my own city! Look around you! Don’t you realize the position you’re in?” the goblin Mayor says, clearly angry and a bit humiliated.

“It looks way safer here than in that castle I escaped from. Anyway, you goblins have some real problems. Count Vlad is dead! Died in the struggle. You goblins will be blamed, so instead of focusing on a small guy like me, you better just let me go. Or else, you’ll have to deal with the Ministry, the Daily Prophet, AND the vampires. Surely, I’m not worth your time, right? I’ll leave, and trust me, I won’t return… ever!”

“Fine, human. Swear on your magic. Also, forget 50,000 Galleons. I’ll offer you twice the original amount—1,000 Galleons.”

    “20,000 Galleons!” Alex counters.

    “2,000 Galleons!”

    “15,000 Galleons!”

“YOU NASTY, GREEDY HUMAN! I’LL GIVE YOU 3,000, MY LAST OFFER!”

    “...I demanded 100 times the amount… fine, I’ll settle for 10 times the amount. 5,000, how’s that?”

“...you have a deal, human. Now take your oath and then disappear. If I see you again with that mask, you won’t like the outcome,” the mayor says, a slight smile on his face.

“As long as I receive 5,000 Galleons and am allowed to leave the city peacefully, I swear on my magic that I won’t tell anybody about the events that transpired and the goblins’ attempts to sacrifice me or others to the vampires. I also recall any measures I’ve taken to ensure this story doesn’t get out,” Alex says, using Ren to make it appear as if something magical has indeed taken place.

“Good! GUARDS, give him his coin, and then kindly escort him out of my mansion. NOW!” the mayor angrily commands. sea??h thё n??el Fire.nёt website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

    [Side Quest Failed]

Alex is more or less forcefully pushed out of the mansion. One guard rushes back in and retrieves a sack filled with Galleons. Alex receives the money and spots a message:

“You realize, I swore on my magic that I wouldn’t tell these things if, and I stress IF, I received 5,000 Galleons. Are you sure you and your mayor will be fine with this situation?” Alex says, looking at the goblin, who begins to panic. The guard rushes inside again, retrieves more coins, and throws another small sack filled with Galleons at Alex.

With the Galleons in hand, Alex quickly disappears, walking swiftly through the city. He uses the first opportunity to change his blood-soaked festive gown into normal-looking clothes but decides to keep wearing the mask—at least for now.

Alex quickly makes his way toward the edge of the city, near the underground volcanoes. Fannlok’s house appears in the distance.

Alex approaches the house, jumps on top of it, and uses En to scan the entire building. He notices a single goblin standing in front of a forge. Using all his focus, he scans the building and sees the goblin working on a sword—not a bow.

Alex smiles, his bloodthirst almost oozing out of him.

Alex jumps down from the roof and decides to enter the building from a window on the opposite side of Fannlok’s forge, allowing him to use a bit of force to enter unnoticed while Fannlok is focused on his work.

Alex then uses Zetsu, walks through the room, opens the door, and enters Fannlok’s forge. To his absolute delight, he spots his bow on the left side of the room.

    [Magoroth’s Legacy]

Alex casually walks toward Fannlok, taking out his [Sword of Pluto].

Fannlok begins to laugh, “It’s finished! I have surpassed my father with this! Hahahahaha!”

Alex smiles but doesn’t pay attention to him. Instead, he violently kicks Fannlok in the nuts, making him drop his hammer and the blade he’s holding. “Congratulations!”

Alex then kicks him in the face and holds his sword to his throat.

“Any last words before I end your pathetic life forever?” Alex asks, feeling smug and satisfied. He can’t forgive the goblin for taking his bow and money and even trying to have him killed in that crazy vampire ritual by slowly draining his blood.

“Who are you?! I beg you, I’m one of the last goblin Runemasters! Please, whatever you want, I’ll give it to you!” Fannlok begs desperately.

“I already got what I wanted,” Alex says and removes his mask.

    “You!! How?!”

“It’s a waste of time explaining it to you… Now, is that it? Goodbye then…” Alex says.

Fannlok begins to shake and screams: “WAIT! HUMAN, I AM SORRY. I WILL BUY YOUR FORGIVENESS, PLEASE, GIVE ME A CHANCE!”

“No need. I’ll take whatever you have in your house, and I’ll be satisfied with that,” Alex states in a smug voice.

“I’ve got more… you’re missing out, human! It can all belong to you. If you swear on your magic not to harm me, I’ll give it to you. You’re missing out!” Fannlok says, his voice desperate.

“Oh, then what can you offer me?” Alex asks.

“I’ve got my materials all hidden. Kill me, and you might pilfer a few weapons, but my materials, which I was planning to take with me on my journey, will remain hidden.”

“Might be able to torture that information out of you. Thanks for telling me,” Alex jokes.

“I’LL NEVER TALK! Only if you spare me will I tell you! Human, please. I’ve wronged you, but this is illogical. I’ll pay for my crime… spare me!” Fannlok pleads.

“Swear on your magic again—prove to me you’re telling the truth,” Alex says, honestly a bit intrigued.

“I swear on my magic, I am not lying,” Fannlok swears, and Alex gets the feeling that he’s indeed telling the truth.

“If you’re honestly handing over all your leftover weapons, materials, and valuables to me right now, I’m going to spare you, and I swear that on my magic. If I lie, I won’t be able to use a wand anymore and cast any more spells. However, you need to swear on your magic that you’ve indeed handed over everything of value you have in your possession,” Alex says, trying his hardest to hold back a grin as he finishes his speech with a burst of Ren.

Fannlok heaves in relief: “Thank god you human swine are so greedy! I hope you choke on it. Damn piece of garbage. I’ll give you what I have, you damn greedy bastard! DAMN YOU. I WISH YOU’D BE DEAD! ALL MY HARD WORK GONE!”

“Oh, I feel so sorry for you. Now, hand me over your stuff, or I’ll kill you!” Alex says in a dry tone.

“I’m handing it over now; you can’t kill me,” Fannlok says as he opens various hidden places inside his house.

He hands over 5,000 Galleons to Alex, along with numerous rare ingots: 3 ingots [Goblin Silver] and 10 ingots of [Goblin Steel], along with a few ingredients and powders Alex doesn’t recognize.

Alex also gets handed 10 [Goblin Swords], each deep green like the one Alex evaluated earlier.

    “Now, your oath,” Alex says.

“I… human, I gave you everything; you have sworn now. Leave me alone,” Fannlok says, obviously hiding something.

“Please keep that up. This way, I’m allowed to kill you. I guess 3 seconds is enough. 3, 2, 1,” Alex says and lifts his sword, ready to strike. But Fannlok screams: “WAIT!! I AM SORRY!”

Fannlok finally holds out his hammer. [Legacy of Fann].

“Human, this hammer, it’s been in my family’s possession for… over a thousand years. I can’t give it away. Please have mercy! I’ll sign any contract; I’ll work until I can give you something that’s more useful to you. Here, you can have this instead for now… I just finished it with most of my rare materials when you… assaulted me.”

    [Enchanted Runeblade]

Alex takes a look at both items, displaying a cruel smile.
